If so, you must play by a different set of rules.

Just think. You can't possibly follow the same set of rules guys who build muscle just by sneezing use.

Nor do you follow the advice of a guy who takes steroids.

If you take advice from someone with great genes, it's really the same as taking financial advice from someone who simply inherited a fortune.

In order to build muscle and turn the heads of others as they look at you, you, as a skinny guy with "unfriendly" genes, must follow a different set of rules.

Here are some tips you, as a skinny guy, can use to effectively gain muscle and weight.

For starters, train like a barbarian!

When you train, do guys stop and watch you work out?

Have you ever trained to a point where you weren't sure if you could have finished training?

You can't simply train like a hobby in order to stand out in a crowd.

The majority of men in the gym hardly ever sweat. Instead, they spend a lot of time starring in the mirror, hoping to impress the girls in the gym or to stand out to other guys.

What you should be doing is getting in the "zone" and pushing through your previous training limits.

To train like a barbarian, you can...

  1. Work each set as if it were your last set

  2. Work each rep as if your life depends on it

  3. Grab a stop watch, bring it to the gym, and use it to keep your rest period honest

  4. Put on a sweater (safely) so that you aren't looking at yourself in the mirror

  5. Grab a headset or ipod and wear it so that others know not to disturb you

  6. Keep any girlfriends or wimpy guy friends out of your workout so they don't compromise its intensity

  7. Scare the gym shorts off of every guy in your path by training with such an intensity

Since you get what you focus on, you have to focus on what you want.

So, focus on training like a barbarian, and you'll soon start looking like one.

Your muscles must have a reason to grow, so give them one!

When you train at the same intensity you did in a previous workout, your muscles simply laugh at you because they can now handle that level of stress.

To have a successful weight training program, there are two forms of training that you cycle through.

1. HEAVY HEAVY HEAVY! Focus everything into lifting weights that are heavier than what you have typically used. This will allow to get as strong as possible. Per major muscle group, only perform one compound exercise. From week to week, set a goal to increase your strength by 5%. These ensure neuromuscular development. To obtain the greatest opportunity for growth, target the fast twitch fibers.

2. VOLUME VOLUME VOLUME! Put your body up against as much as work as you can safely expose it to in the shortest period of time. By placing muscles under more tension will result in more muscle growth because you end up recruiting more tapped and untrained muscle. The key is to really find an ideal balance with time and work. To train by volume, you don't have to train in the gym for 2 hours lifting weights. Lift heavy weights close to your max threshold, use shorter rest periods, train with slower speeds, and select the exercises you want to do per muscle group.

End program-hopping for good!

Sure, you can test drive a program over the course of some weeks and then move on to the next program. By doing this (after you have a program in your hands that WORKS), causes guys to blame and not accept responsbility.

I'm sure you realize that you can't become rich simply by testing out a new job for a few weeks and then, when your first paycheck doesn't meet your expectations, you simply quit.

Virtually every program will work for a certain period of time if you take action and apply the right intensity.

The reality is that virtually every program will work for a certain period of time if it is done at the right intensity and as the author has written.

Find a program and study the details of the program to its entirety. Check to make sure the author's goals and yours are in alignment. Study the fine details.

Instead of asking a million questions or trying to find holes or poke flaws in it (the perfect program doesn't exist), simply trust the program, follow it with integrity, and track your progress.

The experience and results you get as a result from taking action with one program over a consistant period of time will be priceless.
