Determine Your Starting Point Before Getting Ripped

Since you are reading this, you probably don't have the ripped body of your dreams (at least not yet!) In this case, you are probably one of two guys...

1. The 'big guy' at the gym who appears huge in clothes yet is lacking any muscle definition when the shirt comes off. You are truly training in bodybuilder style and and are eating in a caloric surplus. You getting bigger and stronger every week, though your excess body fat prevents you from ever winning a fitness model competition.

Or...

2. You the 'skinny guy' who is under the false impression of being ripped on the basis that because your veins pop out when you wear a tank top. The catch is you have no muscle mass to support your frame. Although your veins make you look 'ripped' to the ladies, having this false sense of 'big' would only get people who laugh at you during a bodybuilding competition.

To really get ripped, you absolutely must determine whether you have to lean down through a fat loss program or add muscle mass with a bulking program. You can't get ripped if you are lacking either muscle definition or muscle mass. Do yourself a favor, and don't chase both of these goals at once. Here are some tips...

How To Get Ripped With Weight Training

If You Are A Skinny Guy You Should...

  • Become stronger by 5% every two weeks
  • Split up body parts to a maximum of a 3-day workout program
  • Make each workout last less than 45 minutes
  • Avoid more than 1-2 forced reps
  • Only focus on compound movements and no isolated movements
If You Are A Bulky Guy You Should...
  • Perform movements that are more isolated in nature compared to compound
  • Train for 1- to 1.5 hours for extra caloric expenditure
  • Spend more time per muscle group
  • Include drop-sets and pre-exhaust sets
  • Split body part workout program to an over 5-day workout program
  • Maintain strength to prevent muscle loss

How To Get Ripped With Nutrition

If You Are A Skinny Guy You Should...

  • Get extra calories through nutritional workout drinks
  • Eat at least 1-1.5 grams of protein per pound of lean muscle mass
  • Eat about 15x your current body weight in calories
  • Get high-quality fats with each meal
  • Eat large quantities of whole grains, oatmeal, rice, and potatos
  • Make largest meals breakfast, pre-workout, and post-workout
  • Eat as much as 2x as many carbs as proteins
If You Are A Bulky Guy You Should...
  • Eat a 1:1 ratio of proteins to carbs in each day
  • Eat at least 1-1.5 grams of protein per pound of lean muscle mass
  • During the workout, ensure that only liquid carbs are consumed
  • Eat about 10x your current body weight in calories
  • Only eat healthy fats like olive oil, flax oil, avocados, and nuts
  • Only consume carbs in the form of veggies and fruits

How To Get Ripped With Cardio

If You Are A Skinny Guy You Should...

  • Only do cardio if your caloric intake is in a 1000 calorie surplus
  • Do cardio no more than 2-4x a week
  • Keep your cardio workouts to less than 20-30 minutes
  • Avoid long training designed for endurance
  • Perform cardio on a full stomach
  • After the workout, enjoy a protein-carb drink
  • Keep your cardio workouts and your weight workouts as far away as possible
If You Are A Bulky Guy You Should...
  • In extreme cases, do cardio up to 7-10x a week
  • Combine interval, slow, and long cardio
  • Sip on a protein shake to avoid losing muscle mass
  • Do cardio immediately after weights
  • Do cardio on an empty stomach for even quicker fat loss
